- After installing Gavriel State's wonderful CivHack extension which allows
- you to play Civilization on a PCI macintosh running System 7.5.2, I was
- disturbed to find that the program crashed with a type -10 error when the
- startup grpahic with the space scene started to scroll across the screen.
- After extensive fiddling with the Extensions Manager, I was able to trace
- the error to an incompatability with the "Global Village Toolbox"
- extension which comes with my Global Village Teleport Platinum modem.
- Simply uncheck the "Global Village Toolbox" extension in the Extensions
- Manager control panel, restart and the game will work.
-
- I have found that this extension is not necessary to use the TP Platinum
- as a modem, although it appears responsible for the ubiquitous Global
- Village pulldown that follows you around from app to app and is required
- for use of the Teleport Control panel. The modem continues to work fine
- with Zterm1.01. While I am sad to see the communications speed indicator
- go, I do not miss the way it obscures other pulldowns in other
- applications. Without the "Global Village Toolbox" extension, Apple
- Remote Access seems to still work. However, I cannot find the fax from the
- choser.
